History
The local Athlone Congregation of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in South Africa recognised the burning zeal of one of her members for the teaching and practice of the art of music. Samuel Jonker saw this as a means of following a God given gift to put to use. This he understood as a way of channelling excess energy of the youth in a positive way, thus making a contribution towards combating gangsterism, drug abuse, and crime whilst at the same time adding to the cultural development of the urban township life.
Our Vision
To provide access to interested persons, especially those who have been historically marginalized, to the world of music, with specific reference to skills, resources, infrastructure and opportunities. " To become one of the finest and most affordable music schools in the Western Cape.
Our Mission
- To identify and develop musical talents of persons of historically disadvantaged communities and others.
- To draw upon the existing corps of music teachers and train teachers to take responsibility for small ensembles in targeted schools.
- To work towards the establishment of ensembles, both small and large, as an expression of the musical prowess of the community.
- To present the study of music as alternative to gangsterism and drug abuse amongst our youth and adult population.
- To work in conjunction with other music schools where possible and to seek accreditation with the Department of Arts, Culture, Science and Technology as well as the Department of Education and other relevant bodies.
